1. Which of the possible venues do you think would best suit this play? Why do you believe the dramatic action would be best served in this venue?

I think a

2. What are some of the design challenges posed by the play?

Some design challenges that the play poses is the many scene changes. Also, the setting shifts from the past and the present would be very hard for the audience to capture until clues are given through the dialogue. This could be avoided by having posters on the side of the stage that has the year and setting on it. For the scene changes, there was a point where Peck was helping Li'l back to the car through the parking lot which was right after they finished the restaurant scene. This means this would be three quick scene changes that has to be done quickly and efficiently.

3. Choose the various chorus characters and discuss how you see them dressed. In what ways do you think the costumes you describe would help articulate their purpose in this play?

The chorus character that plays Li'l Bit's grandfather would be dressed with a plaid shirt, khakis. I wanted the colors to be neutral to show that he doesn't really have a positive impact on her. I would like the person who plays Aunt Mary to be dressed in a green dress to imply later on in they play that she becomes envy of Li'l Bit having so much control over her husband Peck. For the person who plays Li'l Bit's mother her design is a little tricky. This is because she has the most impact on Li'l Bit when it comes to learning certain life lessons. For example, she knows a lot about drinking and how to "drink classy" as she is with Li'l Bit in spirit. So I would say that the person who plays Li'l Bit's mother would be dressed in a classy dress that would be great for that scene as well as the dinner scenes.

4. Provide some ideas about the use of light in the play?

I want the play to stay serious, dramatic and uncomfortable during certain moments; therefore, the lights will be dimmed with dark blue undertones whenever Li'l Bit and Peck are in the car together. This would intensify the seriousness of the situation that Li'l Bit is in. This is the opposite of how the lights will be during the family dinner scenes. These would be regular lights that accentuate the characters and their costumes. This would also makes these scenes light and humorous.

5. Suggest music and sound effects that could help accentuate the mood or atmosphere of the play.

The mood or atmosphere is usually uncomfortable and very frightening when Li'l Bit is alone with Peck. In order to portray this, I believe having suspense build up music will enhances the uncomfortable feeling Li'l Bit is experiencing. However, this music can not automatically play whenever Li'l Bit and Peck are together. This would imply that she is always uncomfortable with him and I do not believe that is the case. Instead the music should play whenever Li'l Bit is being touched by Peck. This would imply to the audience that she is really uncomfortable with the contact, especially in the car with him. For the ending scene when Li'l Bit is learning how to drive for the first time, there should be drums to represent Li'l Bit's heartbeat and how Peck's harassment was causing her to panic.
